October is German-American Heritage Month.
October 6, as German-American Day, commemorates the founding of Germantown, Pennsylvania. Festivities include Oktoberfest, originally observed October 12, 1810, which celebrated the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The celebration featured horse races and other festivities, and is now an event celebrated worldwide.
