CTGS was founded in 1958 to associate as members interested in the acquisition of genealogical information and the dissemination of such information. We do this by aiding individuals in searching for and compiling their family genealogies. CTGS seeks to stimulate popular interest in genealogy and genealogical information while promoting good fellowship, proper ethics and conduct in relationships with members and other genealogical groups in pursuit of these activities.
CTGS co-sponsors (along with the WMCL Genealogy Center) regularly scheduled educational courses open to all interested persons. CTGS's monthly 4th-Monday programs and the WMC Library Brown Bag programs include topics that share knowledge, information, methods, and procedures in the study of genealogy and related historical, biographical, and heraldic data, and compilation of genealogies. Additionally, there are five Special Interest Groups open to the public.
CTGS is one of several sponsors for the "Genealogy Lock-In" held each year in October; along with TxSGS (Texas State Genealogical Society), WMCL (Waco-McLennan County Library), WMC Library Genealogy Center, and GNT (Genealogy Network of Texas). At the West Waco Library location, there is on-site research, one-on-one genealogy assistance, and archive and heritage group exhibits. GNT and the WMCL Genealogy Center network with libraries across the United States to broadcast the virtual genealogical education sessions of the Lock-In.
CTGS member dues are used to underwrite these quality programs and to help develop and maintain the Special Collections in the WMCL Genealogy Center. CTGS invites you to join our group of passionate genealogists so that you, too, can "Discover Your Own Family History."
